Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement Sale of Champions

DES MOINES, IOWA — With a final swing of the gavel, the Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement (IFAA) raised $443,500 for the 16 exhibitors of 4-H and FFA Grand and Reserve Champion livestock in the Sale of Champions Saturday, August 21st at the 2021 Iowa State Fair.
Four champion records were broken during the 2021 Sale. The Grand Champion 4-H Market Steer stole the show with an all-time record for all species at $100,000. The Grand Champion 4-H Market Heifer also broke a record price at $40,000. The Reserve Grand Champion Market Heifer brought in a record price of $42,000, and the Grand Champion FFA Market Lamb brought in a record price of $18,500.
The Grand Champion 4-H Market Steer was exhibited by Dalton Shanks of Colfax, IA and sold for $100,000 to HyVee and ISF Beef Champions Supporters with support from Central Iowa Seeds, Runner Seed, Lowry Seed and Mid Iowa Seeds, and Local Support /Citizens of Colfax.
The Reserve Grand Champion 4-H Market Steer was exhibited by Chloe Rogers of Iowa City, IA and sold for $55,000 to Sinclair Tractor and ISF Beef Champion Supporters with support from Blake Hershberger Enterprises and Leman Show Cattle, and Local Support /Citizens of Iowa City.
The Grand Champion 4-H Market Heifer was exhibited by Ellie Neil of Fairbank, IA and sold for $40,000 to Fareway Meat & Grocery and ISF Beef Champion Supporters, TransOva with support from Fairchild Farms, Lettow Show Pigs, Bremer County Cattlemen’s, and Local Support /Citizens of Fairbank.
The Reserve Grand Champion 4-H Market Heifer was exhibited by Kinser Gallager of Elkhart, IA and sold for $42,000 to Dee Zee Mfg., Dennis and Sue Albaugh, ISF Beef Champion Supporters, TransOva with support from Don & Cheryl Timmins, Graham Construction and G & H Asphalt, and Local Support /Citizens of Elkhart.
The Grand Champion 4-H Market Hog was exhibited by Brynn Younge of Wellman, IA and sold for $33,500 to HyVee, Hanor/Crown Prairie, Phibro with support from Blake Hershberger Enterprises, Zoetis and Holtkamp Farms, and Local Support /Citizens of Wellman.
The Reserve Grand Champion 4-H Market Hog was exhibited by Macy Jacobson of Osceola, IA and sold for $22,000 to Elanco, Smokey D’s BBQ and Greg Lage with support from Rodgers Cattle Company and First National Bank of Ames, with Local Support /Citizens of Osceola.
The Grand Champion FFA Market Hog was exhibited by Pierce Woodruff of Moorland, IA and sold for $33,000 to Fareway Meat & Grocery, Hog Slat, Inc., APC and Old West BBQ with support from P & R Doors and Macke Motors, and Local Support /Citizens of Moorland.
The Reserve Grand Champion FFA Market Hog was exhibited by Morgan Brinning of Keota, IA and sold for $34,000 to Swine Genetics International, Stockguard, Cargill/Provimi and Wiechman Pig Co. with support from Zoetis, Nutrition Services, Hills Bank and Local Support /Citizens of Keota.
The Grand Champion 4-H Market Lamb was exhibited by Sam Schmillen of Marcus, IA and sold for $16,000 to Hy Vee and TransOva with support from Rule Sheep Co., Schmillen Construction, Cherokee State Bank and High Stride, and Local Support /Citizens of Marcus.
The Reserve Grand Champion 4-H Market Lamb was exhibited by Sam Schmillen of Marcus, IA and sold for $11,000 to Berry Farms, Corteva Agriscience, and TransOva with support from Farmers Mutual Insurance, Holzhauer Motors Ltd., Amthauer Club Lambs and Cooper Specialty Feeds, and Local Support /Citizens of Marcus.
The Grand Champion FFA Market Lamb was exhibited by Phoebe Sanders of Eagle Grove, IA and sold for $18,500 to Fareway Meat & Grocery, Lettow Show Pigs and Mid States Millwright with support from Gold Eagle Coop, Town & Country Insurance and DLS Farms, and Local Support /Citizens of Eagle Grove.
The Reserve Grand Champion FFA Market Lamb was exhibited by Kelli McAfee of Weldon, IA and sold for $10,500 to Kemin Animal Nutrition and Health, Skyfair, Inc. and Custom Precast with support from Osceola Farm & Home and Accu-Steel Fabric Covered Buildings, and Local Support /Citizens of Weldon.
The Grand Champion 4-H Meat Goat was exhibited by Halle Hindman of Albia, IA and sold for $8,000 to Luana Savings Bank, Peoples Co. and ADM Alliance Nutrition/ShowTec with support from Lathrop Farms, Goretska Show Cattle and First Iowa State Bank, and Local Support /Citizens of Albia.
The Grand Champion FFA Meat Goat was exhibited by Morgan Goretska of Corydon, IA and sold for $10,000 to Lucta USA, ADM Alliance Nutrition/ShowTec and TransOva with support from McConahay Cattle Co, Hild Bros. Show Stock and Goretska Show Steers, and Local Support /Citizens of Corydon.
The Grand Champion 4-H Market Broilers were exhibited by Simeon Buie of Batavia, IA and sold for $4,500 to Central Iowa KFC – Kevin Schlutz with support from Hy Vee, Libertyville Savings Bank and Kalona Sale Barn, and Local Support /Citizens of Batavia.
The Reserve Grand Champion 4-H Market Broilers were exhibited by Abby Kaska of Solon, IA and sold for $5,500 to Ankeny Sanitation, Inc. with support from Hills Bank, Theisen’s, and Family and Friends, and Local Support/Citizens of Solon.
These awards and scholarships are sponsored by the Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement (IFAA), a non-profit organization. The IFAA was reorganized in 1988 and is comprised of ag enthusiasts dedicated to encouraging 4-H and FFA livestock, poultry and agriculture project members to pursue ag related careers.
In addition to the sale, the IFAA awarded $184,350 in scholarships as well as performance and carcass awards in the amount of $23,150 presented prior to the Sale, for a total $651,000 for young livestock exhibitors. Since 1988, the IFAA has raised over $9 million to support the future of Iowa’s youth and future Ag leaders.
